Get a Clean Slate With The IRS Fresh Start Program
Do you have tax debt and don’t know where to turn? If you owe $50,000 or less in back taxes, the IRS Fresh Start Program could provide some much-needed relief.
What Is the IRS Fresh Start Program?
The IRS Fresh Start Initiative, also known as the Fresh Start Program, is not a specific program per se. It is actually a set of updated guidelines for existing programs. These changes now make it easier for more taxpayers to qualify for tax relief. There are three main components to the Fresh Start Program:
-
Federal tax lien withdrawal.
If you owe less than $25,000 (individual tax debt), enter into a direct-debit payment plan, and make three (3) consecutive monthly payments on time it is now possible to have your tax lien removed.
-
Offer in Compromise (OIC).
With an OIC, you can settle your tax debt for less. Under the Fresh Start Program, you no longer have to provide 4 to 5 years of financials to qualify.
-
Installment agreements
You can now pay off smaller tax debts over time without being penalized.
To qualify for any of the programs under the Fresh Start Initiative, you will need to file all required tax returns before applying. If you have unfiled tax returns from previous years, this will result in your application being denied.
How to Apply for the Fresh Start Program
Although requirements are more relaxed, getting approval for any of the tax relief programs under the Fresh Start Initiative is far from guaranteed. To improve your chances of success, we strongly recommend working with a tax professional. At Tax Assistance Group, we can:
- Help with unfiled tax returns and get you back into compliance.
- Determine which program(s) would be best suited to address your tax debt problems.
- Work on your behalf to ensure all necessary paperwork and supporting documentation is properly submitted.
- Negotiate with the IRS to get you the best results.
